The Cost of Home Security
from:The cost of home security varies widely depending on how elaborate your system is. Also, if you opt for monitoring service you can expect to pay a monthly service charge and often, you are required to sign a two or three year service contract. These monthly charges usually run between $30 and $40 for the basic monitoring service, however, many of the service companies offer options that could raise that price significantly.
Is it Worth It?
Of course! Now, that doesn’t mean that you should purchase an elaborate home security system or that you should go into debt to buy one. What it does mean is that everyone should make home security a priority and take measures necessary to protect home and family. If that means you can afford an elaborate home security system, great, but if not, you can still take measures to protect your home and your family. In fact, there are many things you can do to ensure your family’s safety that don’t cost any money at all. This has to do with keeping windows and doors locked, keeping bushes and trees trimmed, and making your home look lived in, even when no one is at home.
What do You Want to Spend?
You can literally spend as little or as much as you want on home security. Whether that means you buy new locks for your windows and doors or invest in outside lighting is completely up to you and your budget, of course. The important thing is to make home security a priority and to do everything you can within your budget to protect your home and your family.
Start Small and Add Features
Many home security systems feature a basic unit that is quite inexpensive and allows you to customize it to your own standards. This means that you can add components as necessary or as your budget allows. One of the chief expenses involved in home security systems is for the monthly monitoring service. While it is not absolutely necessary to engage a monitoring service, be aware that if you do, you normally have to sign a two or three year contract and pay with a credit card. Most of these companies will run a credit check and you must have good credit to be approved.
Even if that is not where you are with your present budget, you can still look at a basic unit and add components and features as you go. In fact, for the do it yourselfer, home security systems can cost far less than for those who have them professionally installed so if you need to cut costs this may be something that you will want to consider.
