Patio and Deck Swingers

from:

Who hasn’t dreamed of spending a sunny afternoon with a tall glass of iced lemonade on a lazy swing or glider? It’s a relaxing and fun way to spend an afternoon and when the setting is your backyard surrounded by the beauty of your garden, it couldn’t get any better.

Home improvement projects are often huge and daunting. But there are some very effective home improvement projects that don’t require a lot of planning, money, time, and energy. Installing a swing on your patio or deck is one of these simple projects that offers a peaceful retreat in the comfort of your own backyard.

If you thought a home improvement project consists of hours of hard work and labor, and lots of money, then consider installing an outdoor swing. Selecting a product that is crafted with a sturdy steel and aluminum frame is the best place to start. Since your swing will be installed on a patio or deck which will be exposed to rain, sun, and other weather, consider including a canopy to reflect the elements. Canopies come in a variety of colors and they are weather-resistant. Sunbrella® fabrics are a great choice when it comes to outdoor fabric.

Choose a swing that is crafted from hardwood for durability and resilience. Mahogany, oak, or redwood are good choices. A premium-grade hardwood is recommended since it is tougher in outdoor weather. The swing should be pre-sealed and pre-stained to ensure its durability and to save you time. However, if you have the time and skill, you can consider purchasing an unfinished swing and doing the staining and sealing yourself.

Most swings are kiln-dried to ensure they are durable. They contain natural oils that make them insect and wear-resistant. Many swings also include cup holders, trays, and built-in side tables for convenience. In addition, you can also find outdoor swings in steel or wicker, but wood is the most popular.

You may decide that a swing that is hung from stationery rafters is your preference over a stand-alone frame. Incorporating a built-in swing on your patio or deck is a good option if you have a structure that will support the weight of the swing. If not, you can purchase kits at your local home improvement stores that provide the instructions and parts you need to create your structure from which to hang the swing. Hanging an outdoor swing is a cinch with these kits.

Add a colorful finishing touch by adding a splash of color with pillows and cushions. Today’s outdoor fabrics are also used for these accessories so you never have to worry about them becoming damaged from sun and rain. You can even change the colors with the seasons or match them to holiday or entertainment themes.

Adding an outdoor swing to your patio or porch is a great way to enhance their beauty and provide a space for many hours of relaxation and leisure living. It’s a small investment that will make significant changes in how much you enjoy your outdoor spaces.
