Patio Tiling is a Snap

from:

If your patio is worn and drab, you’re not alone. Whether you’ve purchased an older home with an outdated patio, or you’ve been a little negligent about taking care of your patio over the years, there are simple and inexpensive solutions that will bring it alive again. A dingy, dull patio doesn’t have to be an eyesore. Patios and decks should be outdoor living spaces where you can entertain and relax.

Replacing concrete or repairing cracks and blemishes can be intimidating. Thankfully, there are other home improvement solutions for patios that don’t take a lot of time or money. Many manufacturers are now producing patio tiles that simply snap into place to cover an existing surface. They’re quick, easy, and affordable.

The nicest thing about snap-in patio tiles is that you probably won’t need to do anything to prepare the patio surface other than to sweep and wash away debris with a garden hose. Once the patio surface is dry, you can go to work.

Patio tiles are easy to work with because they don’t require special tools, cutting, or other skills. You start by measuring the entire patio surface and calculate the number of tiles you’ll need based on the size of the tile being used. Your home and garden center can be helpful in making this calculation.

Most patio tile kits come full of instructions, videos, tiles, and everything else needed to manage your do-it-yourself patio project. You can even tile right over small cracks. However, you may need to do a little more work around larger cracks and you’ll find instructions in your kit. It usually takes a small amount of patching compound to do the trick but with a little practice, you’ll be a pro.

The kits have even prepared the edging of the patio for you! You’ll find smaller tiles, strips, and ornamental designs to outline the edges of the patio. They give your finished patio a more professional and pleasing appearance. They also help to hide any ragged edges or blemishes surrounding the patio. There are outer tiles which are sloped or have other shapes to give them even more character and they allow water to flow off the patio decking.

Most patios are free of encumbrances so you’re simply snapping the tiles in place according to the shape of the patio. But don’t worry. If you have an odd shaped corner or other built-in structures to work around, the tiles can be easily cut with a handsaw or gigsaw and fitted to these spaces.

Advances in the production of patio tiles have made them durable year after year. They add a new dimension to your patio and add depth and color, revitalizing an old, cracked, and dull surface. They help you create a colorful, professional outdoor space that will be enjoyed for many years to come.

Home improvement projects don’t have to be hard and expensive to be effective. Check out your local supplier of patio tiles and you’ll soon have that patio that you’ve dreamed about for years.
