10. Waterfalls And Ponds For A Lively Exterior

from:

Water is the element of nature that is associated with peace. Proximity to water has a soothing effect on our mind and body. By using waterfalls and ponds in your landscape design you can create a magical effect that will catch the fancy of each and every visitor to your house.

While planning for waterfalls and ponds you need to keep in mind the construction of two important structures, one the pond in which the water will fall and second and the most important aspect of creating a cascading structure from where the waterfall will flow. To start with the process you need to first ascertain the height of the waterfall and how to get this height. Many landscape architects usually make use of any available slope on the property or create an artificial slope if the property is constructed on a level ground.

Creating a waterfall height would be a tedious process which by no means would also be cheap. If you are looking to create a giant waterfall in your backyard then you require a layer of flexible liner in between the top region of the waterfall and the base where it meets the pond. This liner can be carefully disguised by placing boulders or rocks giving it a beautiful natural look.

You can still enjoy a waterfall even if you have a small backyard. The waterfalls and ponds landscaping architects in case of small backyards make use of pre-cast concrete structures for creating the waterfall cascading structures. These concrete structures are compact and very simple to install thereby giving your backyard a lovely natural look. The concrete structures can be replaced by natural rocks if they are easily available. Besides being cost effective they will give a lively lifelike feel to the entire landscaping.

After you have created a cascading structure for the waterfall, the next important step is to dig out a pond for storing water. Once you have completed with the creation of these two basic structures you will require a good quality submersible water pump for re-circulating the water again and again from the pond back to the waterfall’s top from where it again drops into the pond.

You can then use your ingenuity by making these waterfalls and ponds landscaping even more beautiful by making use of lovely water plants and surrounding the pond with beautifully rounded stones. You can even buy some swans and ducks to float around in the pond giving it an exotic look.

Before starting with the waterfalls and ponds landscaping ensure that there are no underlying utility lines which might get cut during the construction process. Get creative with your waterfalls and ponds landscaping and enjoy the sound and serenity offered by the splashing water.
